To save cost, 80 prisoners who worked as construction workers were selected from other prisons in Taiwan to build Green Island Prison House. It was not finished until September 1972.

It is said that the famous song, “The Night Song of Green Island”, was written by a prisoner. Even though with the beautiful lyrics and melody, it is still a sad song. The Green Island was once called as “The Devil Island”, for the legends of the most infamous prisoners.

He looks at the other three giant rocks. In the back of Rock, the is an arch, which was used to be the road to the Oasis Villa from the harbor before the road was built. People going through the arch were uneasy, fidgety, like they were going to hell. So this arch was also named “Ghost Gate.”

Several puddles spread in the tidal flat with lots of small fish and crabs residing. Three bricked circles form the “bathing” area, and two natural stoned ones are the “swimming pools.”

The ocean comes into the deep earth bed, and comes out as the hot water. Temperature ranges from 53°C to 93°C ( 127.4°F to 199.4°F ). The water is clean and slightly acidic without the sulfurous smell, but too salty to drink.
